Fall in the Smoky Mountains is the most popular time of the year. Leaves gradually turn from green to shades of gold, yellow, or orange flaunting the majesty of some of the most beautiful mountains in the world. This change takes place mid-October and stays through the first week in November. This is considered to be a major event in the Smoky Mountains, drawing millions of tourists each year.

Towns located just outside Great Smoky Mountains National Park, including Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, and Sevierville celebrate this event by decorating with pumpkins grown by local farmers, bales of hay, fall flowers, flags and banners, cornstalks, scarecrows, and many other creative items.
