PIGEON FORGE -- June 7, 2002 - The scene is under the bright lights of Broadway - Legends Corner Bar, Wolfy's, The Pawn Shop, and Ernest Tubb Records. It's Broadway - Nashville style, and it sets the stage for the newest addition to Dollywood's award-winning entertainment package.
"From the beginning numbers to Who Will Fill Their Shoes the show provides memories and video anecdotes from my friends and my heroes in Country Music. Every time I see it I see something new that makes me laugh or touches my heart," said Dolly. "We had a great time putting it all together and I think people are really going to enjoy it."
Backstage Pass, in signature Dollywood fashion, is a full-scale production show with a one-of-a-kind look at the past 50 years of country music. It's complete with anecdotes and stories from the legends themselves, industry pioneers such as the Oak Ridge Boys, Larry Gatlin, Little Jimmy Dickens, Jeannie Sealy, and Dolly contributed to the project.
"I wanted to give something back to my friends and the performers I have admired over the years. With nearly 80 songs in one hour there's a mix of music from every era and every big star," said Dolly.
The show really gives the audience a look at what it's like in Nashville - from backstage at the Opry to the Ryman it really will feel like you've been given a backstage pass to some of the greatest shows of all time. The show also provides the audience with a unique look at a Nashville recording session. The shows vocal arrangements, produced by Dollywood's in-house Entertainment team, are accompanied alongside choreography by veteran New York dancer and choreographer John Dietrich.
Finding it nearly impossible to keep the production within a one-hour running time, more than one version of the show was created and will be performed throughout the season. "We had so much great material," says Vice President of Entertainment Patricia Morinelli, "we didn't want to lose anything."
Backstage Pass debuted Saturday, May 25 and is performed daily in Dollywood's 1,700-seat Celebrity Theatre. All of Dollywood's award winning shows are included in the price of a one-day park admission.
