GSMNP - Acting Superintendent Philip A. Francis, Jr., announced today that Sugarlands Horseback Riding Stables near Gatlinburg opened for business on June 21, 2003. Sugarlands Horseback Riding Stables is the new name for the concession-operated riding stable formerly operated as McCarter's Riding Stables.

This facility is located on Newfound Gap Road (U.S. 441) approximately 1.5 miles south of Gatlinburg and offers guided horseback rides on Park trails. The cost is $20 per person per hour. The stable is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. The telephone number to call for information or reservations is (865) 430-5020.

Mr. Donald Manis was awarded a concession contract with the National Park Service in November 2002 to operate this horseback riding stable. He continued, "We look forward to working with Mr. Manis to assure quality services to the thousands of visitors who will take horseback rides from this popular location annually."

The Park also offers horseback riding rental services at three other locations:

The Smoky Mountain Riding Stable near Gatlinburg, TN

Smokemont Riding Stable near Cherokee, NC.

The cost at each operation is $20 per person/per hour.

In addition to horseback rides, Cades Cove Riding Stable also offers buggy rides ($7.50 per person) and hayrides ($6 per person), as well as special ranger led hayrides ($8.50 per person)..
