• Great Smoky Mountains National Park Offers Fall Harvest Hay Rides - Join a Park Ranger for an evening haywagon ride through Cades Cove in Great Smoky Mountains National Park during the Fall Harvest Hayride Program scheduled each night Wednesday through Saturday the last week in October.
Amidst the preserved 19th and early 20th Centuries farming community, Park staff, dressed in period costume and staged along the Cades Cove Loop Road, will make stories come alive of the people and events of long ago. Participants will discover how the Cades Cove residents worked a living from the land and created a community in the process. “We invite the public to enjoy this opportunity to hear these stories of community life, to see Cades Cove by moonlight and to hear the sounds of Cades Cove as they leisurely ride around the one-way loop road,” said Park Ranger Ann Schlichting.
Guided hayrides will leave from the Cades Cove Riding Stables at 7:00 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:00 p.m., and 8:30 p.m. nightly. The program will last approximately two hours and will be conducted regardless of weather conditions unless deemed unsafe.
Space on the wagons is limited. Advance reservations are required and can be made by telephoning the Cades Cove Riding Stables at 865-448-6286. The cost is $8.00 per person two years old and older.
Bring the family, comfortable clothing for the weather, and a flashlight for the parking and restroom area.
